1. Understanding 2 Peter 3:4 – The Scoffers’ Argument
2 Peter 3:4 (KJV) – And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
This passage highlights how, even in Peter’s time, some were already doubting the promise of Christ’s return. These individuals mocked the idea of a second coming, arguing that nothing had changed since the beginning of creation and that the world would continue unchanged.
2. The Error of the 70 AD Kingdom Doctrine
Many claim that Yahusha (Jesus) returned in 70 AD and established His Kingdom when Rome destroyed Jerusalem. This belief, sometimes associated with Preterism, contradicts the Scriptures for several reasons:
A. Christ’s Return Will Be Visible to All
Revelation 1:7 (KJV) – Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
- The destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD was a localized event, but Christ’s second coming is global and visible to all.
- The prophecy states that “every eye shall see Him”, which did not happen in 70 AD.
B. The Resurrection and Final Judgment Have Not Yet Taken Place
1 Corinthians 15:52 (KJV) – In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
- The resurrection of the dead is a key event associated with Christ’s return.
- No historical record exists of a global resurrection of the righteous and wicked in 70 AD.
C. The Kingdom of Christ Has Not Yet Been Fully Established
Daniel 7:13-14 (KJV) – I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.
And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.
- The Kingdom of Christ will be an eternal dominion over all nations, something that clearly has not been fully realized yet.
- 70 AD did not bring about a universal submission to Christ’s rule.
3. Christ Has Not Yet Executed Judgment on Those Who Refuse to Serve Him
Another key prophecy that remains unfulfilled is Christ’s execution of judgment on those who reject His rule:
Luke 19:27 (KJV) – But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.
This verse shows that at Christ’s return, He will personally oversee the destruction of His enemies.
- This did not happen in 70 AD.
- There is no record of Christ physically returning and executing His enemies at that time.
Instead, the full execution of this prophecy aligns with Revelation 19, where Yahusha returns as a conquering King:
Revelation 19:15 (KJV) – And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
This event has not yet occurred, proving that the claim of Christ’s Kingdom being fully established in 70 AD is false.
4. The True Timing of Christ’s Return and Kingdom Establishment
A. Christ Will Return After the Great Tribulation
Matthew 24:29-30 (KJV) – Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
- The Great Tribulation must happen first.
- Christ’s coming will be a visible event that all nations witness.
B. Christ Will Rule All Nations, Not Just Spiritual Israel
Revelation 11:15 (KJV) – And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
- This prophecy clearly has not happened yet.
- When the Kingdom is fully established, all the kingdoms of the earth will be under Christ’s rule.
5. Conclusion: The 70 AD Doctrine Is a Deception
The belief that Christ fully established His Kingdom in 70 AD contradicts multiple clear biblical prophecies:
- Christ’s return will be visible to all nations – This did not happen in 70 AD.
- The resurrection of the dead has not yet occurred – The final judgment is still future.
- Christ has not yet ruled over all nations with a rod of iron – His earthly reign has not begun.
- Those who refused His rule have not yet been slain before Him – This is a future event (Luke 19:27).
- The Great Tribulation precedes His return – This is yet to happen.
Therefore, those who claim Christ’s return already happened in 70 AD are deceived and contradict the Word of God. Christ will return at the appointed time, and He will execute judgment on His enemies before fully establishing His reign.
6. Key Scriptures to Refute the 70 AD Kingdom Doctrine
- Matthew 5:17-19 – The law is still in effect until heaven and earth pass away.
- Revelation 1:7 – Every eye will see Him at His return.
- 1 Corinthians 15:52 – The resurrection of the dead is tied to Christ’s second coming.
- Luke 19:27 – Those who reject His rule must be slain before Him (unfulfilled prophecy).
- Revelation 19:15 – Christ will rule with a rod of iron and execute His enemies at His return.
- Revelation 11:15 – The kingdoms of the world must submit to Christ.
